Equal Housing Opportunity. We do business in accordance with the Federal Fair Housing Law and the Equal Credit Opportunity Act.   Your savings are federally insured to at least $250,000 and backed by the full faith and credit of the United States Government by the National Credit Union Administration, a U.S. Government Agency.

YOUTH ACCOUNTS

Generations Credit Union believes that the future leaders of our country deserve attention NOW, and that we can help them to develop good financial habits by being a part of their early life. If they understand money, and the role of their credit union in their lives, it will be easier for them as they grow up and have difficult financial decisions to make.

The development of a strong, fun, program is an ongoing project for us. If you have any ideas please call or e-mail us.

Kid's Club Savings (up to age 12)
We hope that by spending time in the Kid's Club, and becoming familiar with us, GCU's youngest generation will not only develop some good saving habits, but also will be more comfortable coming to us as teens and young adults when they need help with those tougher financial decisions that lie ahead.

Teen Club Savings (age 12 - 18)
Teenagers are another important generation for GCU. Our goal is to make this transition from "kid" to "teen" a special one for our younger members. Bring them in to meet us and allow us to help them:

  • develop a savings plan for specific goals
  • open a Teen Size Certificate --- a true exercise in
       dicipline
  • learn how to create a budget and live by it
  • walk through the process of balancing a checking
       account
  • learn to use "plastic" before they are bombarded by
offers for credit later on: our Visa Check card is
available to teen checking account holders (upon
approval) and, unlike the "buy it now, pay it later"
philosophy of credit cards, the funds come immediately
out of the teen's checking account.
  • Teen Club Checking (age 12 - 18)
Our goal is to help young adults learn responsible money management. We have created a special booklet to teach them the ins & outs of becoming a successful checking account holder. With a Teen Checking account:

  • GCU provides the first box of checks
  • Minimum opening deposit is $15.00
  • NO month end fees
  • NO dividends paid
  • Free Visa Check Card/ATM card (subject to application
       approval)
  • Free 24-hour Credit Union Connection phone banking
       and Online Home Banking
  • Note: Generations Credit Union MAY require an adult co-signer as a responsible party on the teen's new checking account for a specified period of time.

College Club Savings (0 - 18) A savings account designed to help young members save for college. The College Club is a special account that can be added to any Kids Club or Teen Club account). The College Club savings account is structured to earn a rate that is considerably higher than the dividend rate we are paying on our regular savings accounts. The maturity date of the College Club will be set as the child's (the account holders) 18th birthday.*

*Since the club account pays higher dividends, there is a penalty for withdrawals before the maturity date. If student starts college before maturity date, please contact us and we can adjust the maturity date.

    Youth Loans
GCU has developed a special loan for our young members. This loan will allow them to make larger purchases and pay them back over time, and at the same time, learn good borrowing skills that will serve them well in the future. Click on the tab below for more information about this program.
